Water Use Restricted in Dwellings in Partial Plan Montaña Roja due to High Boron Concentration

By Ruth Gabilondo – 24 May 2010

The company in charge of the whole water distribution in the Partial Plan Montaña Roja, Club Lanzarote S.A., has detected concentration of Boron between 0.9 and 1.7 milligrams per litre (mg/L) whilst the allowed limit is  1 mg/L. For this reason the use of water has been restricted and residents of Playa Blanca should not use it for drinking, cooking or preparing food.

The consumption of water is therefore limited to cleaning and personal hygiene for the time being. This information has been provided by the Company who detected the high levels of Boron in the last control carried out in routine water tests.

Club Lanzarote S.A. has announced that the membranes are being replaced, by which action this situation will be solved within a period of 15 days, according to the Company’s estimations. “However, the restriction will be maintained until such time as the level of Boron is within the current regulations and this is verified by the Health & Safety Board of the Canary Islands, which will be communicated to the public as soon as possible”, the Company has explained in a press release.

Club Lanzarote will maintain a telephone number for attention and information to affected owners, namely 928 518 324.
